Laser scanning of a mill in Kotopeky for the preparation of an as-built building passport
At the beginning of July 2024, we carried out the scanning of a small old mill building near Prague in order to create drawing documentation and prepare an as-built passport for the property. The building, with a total area of approximately 200 m², contained a large number of small rooms. The survey was performed using a FARO Premium terrestrial laser scanner. The façades were scanned in color, while the interior spaces were captured using reflected-signal intensity (no color).
The total number of scanning positions exceeded 90, including 20 positions for the façade part of the building. During post-processing, the scan stations were registered in specialized software to create a unified point cloud in a single coordinate system. The point cloud was exported in several formats: .e57 and .rcp. To make the architect’s work easier, the .e57 dataset was downsampled to a 5 mm point spacing, while the .rcp file was prepared in a structured format with panoramic images.
In addition, the client received an online 3D web tour with panoramas, enabling convenient collaboration with the architect on the project.
The final deliverables included 2D drawings of the measured floor plans of the first and second floors, as well as longitudinal and transverse sections of the building.
